The song “Jingle Bells” was never intended to be a Christmas song. Written by James Lord Pierpont in 1857, the song was originally titled “One Horse Open Sleigh” and was meant for Thanksgiving. Pierpont wrote it to capture the fun of sleigh rides in the snow, not Christmas festivities. It wasn’t until later that the song became associated with the holiday season and cemented itself as a Christmas classic worldwide.
