In 1975, a man in Detroit tried to rob a gun store—while it was hosting a police officer convention. The would-be thief walked into the store, pulled a gun, and demanded cash, only to be immediately surrounded by dozens of armed off-duty police officers. Unsurprisingly, the robbery didn’t go as planned, and he was arrested on the spot. The event is now often cited as one of the most poorly thought-out crimes in history.
