In 1923, jockey Frank Hayes won a horse race at Belmont Park despite being dead. Mid-race, Hayes suffered a fatal heart attack but remained in the saddle as his horse, Sweet Kiss, crossed the finish line first. It was the only win of Hayes’s career and a morbidly unique moment in sports history. Sweet Kiss was nicknamed “Sweet Kiss of Death” after the incident and reportedly never raced again.
