🧠The Daily Fact #20
The mantis shrimp has one of the most powerful punches in the animal kingdom. Its club-like appendages can accelerate faster than a .22-caliber bullet, delivering blows strong enough to shatter glass aquariums and crack open prey like crabs and clams. This rapid strike generates cavitation bubbles, which collapse with intense heat and light, briefly creating conditions similar to the surface of the sun. Mantis shrimp also have extraordinary vision, with 16 types of color receptors (compared to humans’ three), allowing them to see ultraviolet and polarized light.
