🧠 The Daily Fact #15

The human body has a fascinating ability to repair itself, but one organ can completely regenerate within weeks: the liver. Unlike other organs, the liver can regrow tissue even if as much as 75% of it is removed. This incredible resilience allows liver transplants from living donors, where a portion of the donor's liver is transplanted and both the donor's and recipient's livers regenerate to near full size. This regenerative ability dates back to ancient times—Greek mythology featured the liver's regeneration in the tale of Prometheus, whose liver regrew daily after being eaten by an eagle as punishment.
